1860 Five Dollar Gold Mormon Coin Restrikes

1860 $5 Gold Mormon Coin Restrikes

1860 Mormon gold coin restrikes are actually more difficult to locate than the authentic gold coins.  This fact does by no means make the restrikes more valuable.  These restrikes are very easy to spot because they were struck on brass.  The restrikes also only feature one side of the coin.  The reverse of the restrikes is completely blank.

The 1860 five dollar Mormon coin obverse restrike looks very different from the authentic gold coins.  The restrike shows three mountains rising in the background.

The 1860 five dollar restrikes for the reverse are very pleasing and actually show the details better than most gold coins.

The restrikes were executed some time around 1900.  However, there is no exact explanation for why they were created.
